Southern Sky Adventures: Sand and Surf

Feel like you want to surf (or learn how) in one the world’s best spots, then try Jeffrey’s Bay on the Indian Ocean coastline of South Africa. Or might you rather meet a 15 foot Great White Shark in its natural habitat? Then you’d want to go Great White Shark cage diving in the #1 rated spot (near Cape Town, South Africa) for this adrenaline pumping activity. Not sure you want to stop there? How about scuba diving or snorkeling with whale sharks off the coast of Mozambique? Exceptional scuba diving can be found in Lake Malawi, in the waters of Mozambique and South Africa (Aliwal Shoals, Sodwana Bay and the annual sardine run). Don’t forget Tiger fishing in Lake Kariba or in the mighty Zambezi River in Zambia and Zimbabwe. These fish have teeth that resemble a barracuda’s and weigh an average of 10 – 15 pounds but can reach 20 pounds. The warm waters of the Indian Ocean are also home to exotic African islands such as Madagascar, Mauritius, the Seychelles and Zanzibar, all equal to, if not exceeding the expectations of visitors to the islands in the Caribbean. The land shelf drops quickly such that sail deep sea fishing fish and marlin can be enjoyed but a couple of miles from the island or mainland.
