Southern Africa

Southern Sky Adventures: Southern Africa

The overwhelming draw to golf in all of Africa is not only found in southern Africa but more specifically in South Africa. Fancourt, located on the Garden Route in George, hosted the 2003 Presidents Cup where Ernie Els and Tiger Woods each drained their 6 foot putts to bring the match to a draw under the encroaching darkness of an hour well past dusk. Leopard Creek is a Gary Player designed course located at the gate of Kruger National Park and often is ranked in the world’s top 100 courses. The Gary Player Country Club at Sun City has been home to the “Million Dollar Challenge” for more than 30 years and the course is still deemed as one of the continent’s best. The list continues on and includes Arabella, Pearl Valley, Pezula, Simola and Pinnacle Point, many of which are located on the Indian Ocean coast, often affording Pebble Beach type views. The surprising dramatic views can perhaps only be met by the surprising low cost of greens fees. In addition, a myriad of Robert Trent Jones, Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player and Ernie Els courses can all be enjoyed throughout the country.
