Southern Sky Adventures: Some of the Best and Most Popular East Africa Safari Destinations

As part of its second Development Strategy for 2001-2005, the East African Community (EAC) established a program to promote East Africa as a single tourist destination. Now, tourists and wildlife enthusiasts can visit Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Uganda, and Malawi under a single, memorable safari in East Africa. Here are some of the destinations travel companies like Southern Sky Adventures offers to those who wish to see Africa’s raw natural beauty.

The Masai Mara

Established in 1961, this reserve was established by Kenya to protect its wildlife from poachers. Now, the thriving wildlife park is home to elephants, rhinos, leopards, zebras, wildebeests, and more. Many travel agencies suggest going to these locations between July and October, which is the best time to witness the great zebra and wildebeest migration from Kenya to Tanzania. The reserve virtually has no fences, so tourists are guaranteed to see Kenya’s wildlife up-close (within a safe distance, of course).

Lake Nakuru

Hailed for having the best bird spectacle in the world, according to ornithologist Roger Peterson, Lake Nakuru is another major tourist destination in Kenya. True to its slogan, this national park is home to hundreds of flamingos and other birds. It is also home to giraffes, baboons, and black rhinoceroses.

Serengeti National Park

Located in Tanzania, this place is also known as the destination of the migrating wildebeests and zebras from Masai Mara. Its huge grasslands make it an ideal hunting ground for lions and other predators; lion hunts are a common sight at the park. Some agencies mark the park as their safaris’ second destination before going to Masai Mara.

Mount Kilimanjaro

Africa’s highest peak also serves as a safari adventure destination. While it is home to wildlife, its appeal is generally directed at climbers. They can actually trek this mountain without any climbing equipment, but only those who are physically fit should safely attempt this.

The EAC continues to capitalize on its tourism industry via the popular safari tours. The influx of tourists can help the region provide more employment for its citizens, as well as protect its local wildlife. Travel and tour companies like Southern Sky Adventures are making all these possible.
